About the district

The administrative territory of Nasimi district, one of the central districts of Baku, is 10.0 sq.km, and according to the official registration of 01.10.2012, population is 215.120 people.

Nasimi district was established on 13.06.1969.  Nasimi district is bordered by Khatai, Narimanov, Binagadi, Yasamal and Sabail districts.

Nasimi Municipality operates in the district.

There are no settlements, villages and other administrative territorial units in Nasimi district.  There are 19 major industrial enterprises, 4 Scientific Research and Design Insitutes, 13 banks and their branches, 9 communication enterprises and 11 hotels.

Accordig to the number of employees, the largest enterprise is “Baku Tikish Evi” OJSC.

There are 8 universities (Azerbaijan Oil Academy, Music Academy, Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Azerbaijan Slavic University, Baku Asian University, Baku Girls University), 33 secondary schools, 4 secondary and vocational schools, 8 non-school educational institutions, 2 music schools, 47 nurseries- kindergartens, 11 hospitals, 11 polyclinics, 13 architectural monuments.

There are 12 recreational parks, 1 cultural center, 3 cinemas, 6 libraries (632,900 books) in the region for the recreation and leisure of the population. In addition,  Heydar Aliyev Palace, Sports and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev, Baku Railway Station, Baku International Sea Trade Port, 28 May, J.Jabbarlı, January 20 and Memar Ajami metro stations are located in Nasimi district.

There are also regional branches of 14 political parties, 45 non-governmental organizations, 17 international organizations and 7 religious communities.

2457 families (10872 persons) from Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied territories have been temporarily settled in the region.

There are 152 martyrs (138 of them are martyrs of war in Karabakh and 14 are January 20 martyrs).

Nasimi District Executive Authority exercises its activity in accordance with the “Regulations on Local Executive Authorities”, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 6, 2012, No 648, Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Civil Service “, Decrees and Orders of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. According to Article 2 of the “Regulation on Local Executive Authorities”, approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No 648, dated June 6, 2012, the Council operates under the head of Nasimi District Executive Power.  The Council, which is a permanent consultative body under the head of Nasimi District Executive Power, aims to discuss specific economic, social, cultural and other local issues of the region.  On the basis of proposals and recommendations on the issues discussed, decisions of the Council are issued by the Chief of Executive Power. The Council builds its work on the approved work plan.

In Nasimi district operates following 3 Election Commissions: Nasimi district No21 (29 stations), Nasimi district No22 (30 stations) and Nasimi-Sabail No23 (19 stations). “On freedom of assembly” establishes a list of open and closed places for holding meetings with voters within the boundaries of constituencies operating in the territory of Nasimi district, as well as the places for campaigning for the preparation of propaganda and campaigning during the preparations for the elections are approved by the relevant order of the Chief of Executive Power.
